Two things that are pretty essential to a great Mexican meal are beans and tortillas. So when my friend, Steve Sando, who clearly knows beans about Mexican food (Steve is founder of Ranch Gordo, just opened SF location at the ferry building) said that The Burr-Eatery makes “gossamer wing flour tortillas”, I take him at his word.  (On a side note, Steve’s Rancho Gordo-Xoxoc Project help small farmers continue to grow their indigenous crops in Mexico, despite international trade policies that seem to discourage genetic diversity and local food traditions).Screen shot 2013-08-23 at 1.54.01 PM

Rancho Gordo’s Heirloom Beans are now available at the SF Ferry Bldg. market, along with dried corn, a vast assortment of chiles and even artisanal Mexican Chocolate. Photo by Rancho Gordo.

And now, its seems, the amazing tortillas are going to be right in my back yard, this Saturday at the:

Dark is the Night: The After Party for the 20th Street Block Party
1975 Bryant Street • 6–10pm • All Ages
$5 donation at the door

An evening of drinks, music and food trucks

So, I’ll see you there and we can both taste the amazing tortillas, I know I plan to take some home!
